This bulletin covers Honda **Pioneer 1000** Side-by-Side vehicles.
### Affected model years
- All MY **2016-2017**
- Certain MY **2018**
The recalled vehicles were sold in red, blue, green, gray, and yellow. "HONDA" is on the front, sides, and rear. The model name "Pioneer 1000" is printed on a label on both sides, near the rear. The VIN is stamped in the frame at the left rear, below the tilt-up bed/seat.
## Issue
The **plastic muffler heat shield can melt** during operation. The melted plastic can subsequently **ignite**, posing a fire hazard.
Reported field incidents at time of recall:
- 22 reports of muffler plastic heat shield melting
- 3 reports of muffler plastic heat shield fires
- 0 injuries
## What to do
1. Verify the model year and VIN against Honda's published affected list.
2. **Stop using the ROV immediately.**
3. Contact an authorized Honda Powersports dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair.
4. Honda is contacting all known purchasers directly.
## Hazard
Severity is rated **critical** because of the fire hazard from a hot exhaust system melting and igniting nearby plastic.
