## Affected machines About **1,600 US units** (plus 60 in Canada) of John Deere **XUV590E**, **XUV590M**, and **XUV590M S4** Gator utility vehicles. The model number **"XUV590E"**, **"XUV590M"**, or **"XUV590M S4"** is printed on the hood. **"John Deere"** and **"Gator"** are printed on the cargo box. The serial number is on the **vehicle frame to the right of the rear hitch receiver**. The recalled vehicles have side-by-side seating for two or four people and were sold in **green and yellow, olive & black, or TrueTimber Kanati Camo** colors. ### Affected serial number ranges | Model | Serial range | |---|---| | XUV590EA | PM060098 - PM060266 | | XUV590ED | PM060005 - PM060027 | | XUV590MA | PM060654 - PM061746 | | XUV590MD | PM060005 - PM060017 | | XUV590MB | PM060225 - PM060631 | | XUV590ME | PM060009 - PM060015 | ### Production / sales window Sold at **authorized John Deere dealers nationwide and online at www.deere.com** from **December 2022 through March 2023** for **$14,500 to $17,500**. This is the current-generation XUV590 lineup (E electric / M gas / M S4 four-passenger gas), which succeeded the legacy XUV590/590 S4 covered by TNB02600090 and TNB02600092. ## Issue **Fuel can leak from under the fuel cap**, posing a fire hazard. Fuel leaking onto a hot exhaust component or other ignition source can ignite, posing a fire risk to the operator, the vehicle, and surrounding structures or vegetation. The defect is in the fuel cap seal/sealing surface — when fuel level rises during refueling or with vehicle attitude changes (uphill/downhill operation), liquid fuel can escape past the cap rather than being retained. The remedy is **dealer inspection** of the fuel cap and sealing surface, with **repair or replacement only if necessary** — not all units in the affected serial range manifest the defect. Reported field incidents at recall time: - 0 incidents - 0 injuries The recall was conducted under CPSC's **Recall Alert** process as a proactive safety action by John Deere. ## What to do 1. Find the **serial number on the frame to the right of the rear hitch receiver** and check it against the affected ranges above. 2. Verify your model is **XUV590E**, **XUV590M**, or **XUV590M S4**. 3. If your Gator is in scope, **stop using it immediately**. 4. Contact your **authorized John Deere dealer** for free inspection and (if necessary) repair. 5. Or call Deere & Company at **800-537-8233**. ## Hazard Severity is rated **critical** because of the fire risk from fuel leakage. While no incidents had been reported at recall time, fuel-leak-near-hot-engine is a recognized critical hazard class — even a single ignition event could cause severe burn injury, total vehicle loss, or grass/structure fire. This severity rating matches the precedent set by: - **TNB02600076** - CPSC March 2013 Briggs/Ariens carburetor bowl nut fuel leak (critical, 0 fires reported) - **TNB02600080** - CPSC February 2017 Stihl MS 461 fuel line pinch (critical, 117 reports + 0 fires) - **TNB02600087** - CPSC April 2024 Intimidator UTV universal joint brake-line sever (critical, 12 brake-line impact reports + 0 injuries) ## Related bulletins - **TNB02600090** - CPSC September 2018 XUV590/590 S4 powertrain throttle stick recall.
