## Affected machines About **6,260 US units** (plus 1,100 in Canada) of certain Ariens **DELUXE-, PLATINUM-, and PROFESSIONAL-series two-stage Sno-Thro** snow throwers. The recalled snow throwers were sold in a **bright orange** color and are equipped with either rear wheels or tracks. The model and serial numbers are located on the **white square ID tag on the frame**. ### Production window Manufactured **August 29, 2024 - October 18, 2024** at the AriensCo facility in Brillion, Wisconsin. ### Affected models This bulletin attaches to all Ariens Deluxe / Platinum / Professional two-stage SKUs in the library. Owners should match by **model and serial number** against the published list at https://www.ariensco.com/safetyrecall — only specific units within these series and within the Aug 29 - Oct 18, 2024 production window are in scope. | Model series | Variants in scope | |---|---| | Deluxe | 24 / 28 / 30 (rear-wheel and Compact Track variants) | | Platinum | 24 SHO / 30 SHO | | Professional | 28 / 32 | The single-stage Sno-Tek series, Classic series, Compact series, and Crossover series are **not** in scope for this recall. ## Issue The **impeller and auger assembly can continue rotating** even after the operator control lever is released. This is caused by **non-conforming parts** in the recalled production batch. If the operator releases the lever — for example, to clear a clog or to step away from the machine — the moving parts inside the housing enclosure should stop. With the defective parts, they may continue rotating, creating a serious **laceration hazard** if the user reaches into the discharge chute or the front housing while the assembly is still rotating. This is a known industry hazard pattern (snow-blower auger entrapment causes severe finger/hand injuries every year), and the recall closes a defect that defeats the standard operator-presence-stop safety system. Reported field incidents at recall time: - 0 incidents (US) - 0 incidents (Canada) - 0 injuries The recall was a **proactive defect notification** prompted by AriensCo's own discovery of non-conforming parts in the Aug 29 - Oct 18 2024 build. AriensCo first mailed STOP USE letters to registered owners on December 30, 2024, then formalized via CPSC fast-track on February 6, 2025. ## What to do 1. Find the **white square ID tag on the frame** of your Sno-Thro and note the model and serial number. 2. Check your model and serial number against the list at https://www.ariensco.com/safetyrecall 3. If your snow thrower is in scope, **stop using it immediately**. 4. Contact an authorized Ariens dealer for free inspection and repair. The dealer locator is at https://www.ariens.com/en-us/dealer-locator 5. Or call AriensCo at (877) 740-7060 Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. CT for assistance. Some recalled snowblowers had already been inspected and repaired by mid-2025. Of approximately 7,711 total potentially-affected units in the production run, 4,093 had been inspected and/or repaired and returned to usable condition by mid-2025 per AriensCo. The remaining ~3,600 units are still being addressed. ## Hazard Severity is rated **warning** rather than **critical** because no incidents had been reported at recall time, but owners should still treat this with urgency given: - The defect specifically defeats the operator-presence safety system - Snow-blower auger entrapment injuries are typically severe (amputation-level laceration) - Auger jams are a routine operating condition that owners commonly try to clear by hand If your unit is in scope, do not operate it until repaired, and **never put your hand into the discharge chute** even after stopping the engine. ## Related bulletins - **TNB02600074** — CPSC April 2014 Ariens Compact / Compack Track Sno-Thro + Sno-Tek + 28-inch power brush amputation and laceration recall.
