Bobcat UV34 / UV34 XL crash hazard from improperly manufactured clutch (CPSC 2020 Recall Alert)
Bobcat · 2020–2020 · Published
CPSC 2020 Recall Alert covers Model Year 2020 Bobcat UV34 and UV34 XL utility vehicles, alongside sibling Polaris RANGER XP 1000 / RANGER CREW XP 1000 (MY2020) and Polaris PRO XD 4000D (MY2019-2020) and PRO XD 2000D (MY2019). An improperly manufactured clutch component can cause the engine-braking feature to fail, resulting in unexpected vehicle motion, posing a crash hazard. Distinct from the Polaris-built fuel-system fire-hazard recalls covered in TNB02600070. Free Bobcat dealer repair.

## Affected machines
This bulletin covers the **Bobcat** portion of the CPSC 2020 Recall Alert covering MY2020 Polaris-built UTVs across multiple distributor brands.
### Affected Bobcat UV34 models
| Model | Production window |
|---|---|
| UV34 (Gas variant) | MY2020 only |
| UV34 XL (Gas variant) | MY2020 only |
Only **MY2020** Bobcat UV34 and UV34 XL units are in scope for this recall. The diesel variants (UV34 Diesel / UV34 XL Diesel) are **not** Polaris-built and **not** in scope.
### Sibling Polaris-branded vehicles in the same recall
The same defect affected:
- Model Year 2020 Polaris RANGER XP 1000 and RANGER CREW XP 1000
- Model Years 2019-2020 Polaris PRO XD 4000D
- Model Year 2019 Polaris PRO XD 2000D
Polaris is currently not in the TractorNuity library. If Polaris is added in a future migration, sibling bulletins for the Polaris-branded portion of this recall should be created.
## Issue
An **improperly manufactured clutch component** can cause the engine-braking feature to fail. The engine-braking feature is what slows the vehicle when the operator releases the throttle on a downhill grade. If it fails, the vehicle can accelerate unexpectedly downhill, posing a **crash hazard** to the operator, passengers, and bystanders.
This is **a crash hazard, not a fire hazard** — distinct from the related Polaris-built fuel-system recalls (CPSC 2021 drive-belt-to-fuel-line damage and CPSC 2023 fuel-pump outlet connector leak), both of which are covered in **TNB02600070**.
The two defect families have **partially overlapping SKU populations** — a MY2020 UV34 Gas owner could be in scope for the 2020 clutch recall (this bulletin), the 2021 fuel-line recall, both, or neither. Owners should check both bulletins.
## What to do
1. Locate the **VIN** on your UV34 or UV34 XL.
2. Check your VIN against the recall via Polaris's lookup tool at https://www.polaris.com/en-us/off-road-recalls/ or the Bobcat recall page at https://www.bobcat.com/na/en/safety/recalls
3. If your UV34 is in scope, **stop using it immediately**.
4. Contact an authorized Bobcat dealer to schedule a free inspection and repair, or call Bobcat at (800) 743-4340 Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. CT.
5. Polaris customer service: (800) 765-2747, Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. CT.
## Hazard
Severity is rated **critical** because of the crash hazard from unexpected vehicle motion, particularly on downhill grades where engine braking is normally relied upon.
