Kubota BX coolant reservoir cap burn-hazard recall (CPSC 19-713, 2018)

## Affected machines Kubota BX-series sub-compact tractors with model years 2014 through 2018. In our library this covers the **BX2380** and **BX23S**. The full CPSC recall (recall number **19-713**, issued November 7, 2018) also covers Kubota GR ride-on mowers, ZD and ZG zero-turn mowers from the same model-year window. Approximately 121,100 units in total across all four product families. The model number is printed on the side of the unit. The data plate, with the serial number, is also on the side. Affected serial number ranges by model are published at Kubota's Safety Notices page (link below). ## Issue The coolant reservoir tank cap can fail to vent properly. When the engine is running hard and the cooling system pressurizes, hot coolant can spray out of the cap and onto the operator, causing burns. Kubota received at least three reports of burn injuries before the recall was issued. A separate but related complaint reported by some owners after the recall fix: the **revised** cap shipped under the recall has, in some cases, also been defective from the molding process (plastic debris in the vent hole). If you receive a replacement cap, inspect the vent hole before installing it; the hole should be clear of any plastic flash or debris. Report any defective replacement caps to your Kubota dealer. ## What to do 1. Locate the model and serial number on the side of the unit. 2. Check whether your serial number is in the affected range using the Kubota Safety Notices page (link below). 3. If it is, contact Kubota Tractor Corporation at **888-458-2682** (888-4KUBOTA) or your authorized Kubota dealer to request the free replacement cap. Kubota can mail the cap directly to you, mail it to the dealer for installation, or the dealer can perform an on-the-spot repair of the existing cap. 4. After installing the new cap, inspect the vent hole for any plastic debris and confirm it is fully clear before resuming use. ## Source U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall Alert 19-713 (issued November 7, 2018).
